Why Kim Henares doubts Tius claim on Batangas estate By Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News Posted at 10/30/2014 7:21 PM | Updated as of 10/30/2014 7:21 PM MANILA - Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares on Thursday expressed doubts over the testimonies of businessman Antonio Tiu with regard to his claim on a controversial Batangas property being linked to Vice-President Jejomar Binay. Henares said she found it odd for Tiu not to remember specific details as to the acquisition of the P440-million property, like dates of sale and profile of seller. Kung bibili ka ng isang bagay, memorable iyun kung kailan mo binili lalo na kung P440 million iyung property, Henares said. I find it unusual that this big a transaction hindi sila certain sa details. Youre buying a P440 million property. You dont even know who it is that should be selling to you, she said. Medyo naguguluhan ako sa kanila. Kung bibili ka ng isang bagay, alam mo iyung binibili mo at kanino mo binibili, pero walang makapagsabi sa kanila ng diretso. Henares did not categorically say if the BIR will investigate if legitimate taxes were paid from the supposed sale of the alleged 350-hectare land in Rosario, Batangas. But she said their office is monitoring the proceedings. Were listening to all these things. I dont want to say anything. We want investigations to be free-flowing, Henares said. Our only objective is to make sure taxes are paid. Henares said if there was indeed a legitimate sale, capital gains taxes should have been paid to the BIR. During the transfer of titles, parties must have acquired a certificate authorizing registration from the BIR office before the actual transfer of title is made. ALLEGATIONS BOLSTERED Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, meanwhile, said the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee hearing on Thursday bolstered allegations that Tiu is a dummy of Binay. During the hearing, Tiu asserted that he owns the property. When asked about his wealth, he said there is no doubt on the credibility of my foreign investors. Senator Antonio Trillanes said they will present in the next hearing details of alleged hundreds of millions of pesos in cash withdrawals by Tiu in from bank in Quezon City.
