****Why being a control freak is blocking your fat loss results… And your happiness!**** I’m the first to put my hand up when it comes to being a control freak. Especially when it comes to providing awesome services and products for my clients. Being super passionate about my clients, improving their fat loss results, their confidence and quality of life… this is always on my mind. And it’s something I truly want for them. Because I am so passionate about what I do, things like the house looking perfect, the garden… and yes even exercise and ensuring my eating is on track, can and will frustrate me. Eg… I’ll walk past the sink and the dishes will still be there, and don’t forget the load of washing that needs to be done… and the dog fur that needs to be vacuumed up. Or the stuff that gets dumped on the kitchen table, when hubby is in a hurry and didnt get put it away. There’s been times when I thought, how can I be successful in life and as a person, when I don’t feel like I have it together , when I battle to keep up with housework… Does this make me a bad wife, a bad furry baby mummy? Truth is, I’ve put that pressure on myself. Yes, the housework doesnt get done straight away… but it does get done. And the house doesnt look like a junk yard. It’s just my inner control freak playing games with me. My exercise may not be done at the same time every day… but yes it does get done… And I do it during the part of the day, when I have the most energy to do it. Which can vary depending on my work and if I’ve been up with Louie and Mayson. Both my furry babies, Louie our black Labrador, and Mayson our yellow Labrador, are both older fellas. So they need extra help, which I love giving them, so they can have the quality of life they deserve… which all pets deserve. So there are occasions when I’m up all night taking care of them. Yes, I still walk Louie and Mayson every day. Because no matter how busy I am, they don’t deserve to NOT be walked. Here’s the thing… Walking the dogs will always take place above a load of washing. Why? Because I love walking the dogs. It brings me joy seeing them have fun and it’s super important for their happiness and well-being that they get to have that each day. Yes, my food prep still gets done. I make Louie and Mayson’s food from scratch, I do their food prep too. I often alternate, do them on different days to our own food prep. I need to remind myself, when I’m feeling frustrated, that’s it’s ok to release control. It’s ok to NOT be perfect. My family (hubby and furry babies) and clients come first – things that I love to do. I make that take place because this is what I love. Everything else will get done, as it happens. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy because you can’t keep up. In fact when you spend your life focusing on the stuff you really can’t stand doing, and feel like you’re drowning it, because you feel like you have to be impeccable at it… It will drain you energy wise, BIG TIME! No matter how much or how little you’re doing of it. Because you’re letting it hang over you like a big black cloud. Some people prefer a more structured life, I do like structure too, but NOT to the point where its driving me nuts... And I’m not saying “don’t give a shit about your house-hold hygiene”… Or “don’t care about your health, nutrition or your body”… I’m saying… What steps can you take to give yourself that time to do the things that you love, and let go of the pressure you put on yourself to have everything perfect. Are you forcing yourself to train at a time of the day when you’re not “feeling’ it. Is there a time of the day that would suit you better, where you can truly get more bang for your buck energy wise with your workouts? Yes? Then make it happen. I have furry babies so I can’t exactly teach them how to do food prep :-), but if you have children get them involved and teach them things they can do to help around the house. Can they help with food prep? Can they be picking up after themselves better? Could they be taking on some more responsibilities? And can you let go of worrying about them doing it perfectly? :-) Are you spending so much time being overwhelmed with your life, your exercise and nutrition that nothing actually gets done? You never make it happen for you? Do you procrastinate about the things YOU DO WANT TO MAKE HAPPEN, because you feel guilty about wanting them because the house work isn’t getting done? You are NOT a bad person if you do the things you love. You are NOT an appalling wife or mum if you don’t have things flawless. You deserve to have happiness, to enjoy life, you deserve to “let go” of the control freak inside you that puts all that pressure on you, and more than not controls your thoughts, your attitude, your feelings. Imagine, just for a moment, the difference it would make in your life to let that go? I want to challenge you today to think about where you’re putting too much pressure on yourself. And what are 3 things that you’re going to make happen, by letting go… Big hugs and luv Mandy xo
