Why bother growing pumpkins? Most of the time Central Texas weather does not give us a good crop. Today its pretty clear why we like to grow them. Its not for the money, its just plain fun to take them to market. The man we know as Mr. Mayor just recently finished a recovery stint. He has been our supporter for years and there he was brimming ear to ear like a kid getting a picture taken with the pumpkins. We couldnt imagine not getting a chance to make him smile. Sometimes its the actual kids, you see there eyes widen and fingers start twitching as the mound of pumpkins beckons. We also ate quite a lot of pumpkin today from some pretty talented food vendors. Pumpkin gelato, breads, pies, rolls, and even soap (not for eating). So while we may never run the numbers and see how the pumpkin affects our bottom line, there are more than bottom lines with this crop. Get a pumpkin, it will make you smile! That is our bottom line.
