Why do people insist on being so mean to one another? I had to - TopicsExpress

Why do people insist on being so mean to one another? I had to make a trip to the grocery store this morning and while I was there I decided to wander the store for any good deals that I may had missed yesterday; lo and behold, one of my favorite tea brands had a new flavor, and it was on sale! I scooped it up (along with a few other teas that were also on sale for the same price) and made my way to the cash. Of course the tea did not ring in at the sale price but since it was on a display all on its own, I KNEW it was on sale. It took me a while to convince the cashier that I KNEW that it was on sale but eventually he called someone from the grocery department; after the guy called him back stating that it was on sale and which UPC code to use, the cashier argued with him too and I ended up having to show the cashier where the tea was. When we got to the display the guy from grocery was trying to explain to him that even though the sign only said the Vanilla tea , they all were and I should get the tea for free. While he is trying to explain this, the cashier told him to Shut up. The guy from grocery simply said Dont tell me to shut up, Im just trying to tell you that this is my department and I know which of my produc... Hes interrupted because the cashier says Get out of my face. Frustrated the grocery clerk walked away. When we got back to the cash the cashier proceeded to tell me how the scanning code of practice works and if he gave it to me for free he could loose his job, I wasnt going to say anything but after he said that I said Well, actually, I use to work for Loblaws and I know otherwise he then changed his story and said that it would all depend on who the loss intervention guy was, I told him Well, actually my boss was a pretty big dick, but whatever I dont really care. And I didnt - in the end, I got the stupid box of tea for $2.00, it would have been cool to get it for free but Im not all that worried about 2 measly dollars. What bothered me is that after requesting help from the grocery department the cashier told him to Shut up and get out of my face; the guy from the grocery department was polite, professional and even maintained his composer after being spoken to rudely the first time. Ive worked with people who have spoken rudely to me, there is never much a manager can do unless (s)he hears it them-self, which of course rarely happens. So I walked the 10 minutes it takes me to get home, looked at my receipt and called the store manager. I didnt get either of their names, but it was fairly easy to explain who I was speaking about as I went through the express cash (theres only one at 9am) and the guy from grocery had a rose tattoo on his forearm. The manager confirmed that yes, I should have gotten the product for free (which was a side issue) but he was upset to hear how one employee was treating another and said he would deal with it right away because that is not how they want to conduct and represent themselves. -End Rant-
