Why do people think that when you attack a police officer and the fight is on that you have to fight fair. If I was in that situation it would be on like donkey Kong. The officer took one blow to the head and now was on his back with an active fighter. It could be easily argued that the sucker punch was an act of lethal force. How many many people died from a unsuspected punch to the head. Now looking at this as a lethal force situation the 2nd officer defiantly has an O SHIT moment and I dont blame him but this is why you must take training serious and keep it as close to reality as possible. It might determine if you go home at the end of your shift. In my own opinion if I was the second officer I would have drove my knee through the guys rib cage and then got control of his right hand and arm giving the officer the ability to get out from underneath the criminal. As for the third officer. He arrives sees the 2nd officer frozen and is blocking his access to the body and he made a split second decision to win this fight. Remember we are in the scope of deadly force so even though your not trained to kick someone in the head I feel from what I saw this was a justified use of an untrained technique in a dynamic situation.
