Why do scholars get to decide for other Muslims that it’s OK to shorten their Ramadan’s day-fast and it still counts, but an individual Muslim cannot decide for him/herself that it’s OK to shorten their Ramadan’s day-fast and it still counts? I mean, if a scholar can make such a decision for others, why can’t an individual make such a decision for him/herself? Are there Scholars who do say that an individual Muslim can decide for him/herself to shorten their Ramadans day-fast and it still counts? . . . The Egyptian scholars say that if the days are long - more than 18 hours - then you can follow the Mecca time or Medina time, or the nearest Muslim country time, says Dr Mannan. . . . bbc/news/magazine-19199411
