Why don’t the people who present themselves as “journalists” - TopicsExpress

Why don’t the people who present themselves as “journalists” understand the grand jury process? Saying the grand jury “failed” to indict indicates that it was the Grand Jury’s assignment to indict Wilson, and they failed to follow instructions. 12 private citizens were chosen by a judge to represent a cross-section of the community the grand jury serves. This grand jury was selected long before the death of Michael Brown. Their job was not to decide guilt or innocence in any matter. Their job in this case was simply to decide if there was enough evidence to put Darren Wilson on trial for the death of Michael Brown. We don’t know the final vote of the 12 members of the jury, but we do know that nine of them could not agree that there was enough evidence for any trial jury to convict Officer Wilson of a crime. The prosecutor, who was a Democrat by the way, could have decided on his own to bring charges. In this case he exercised his prerogative to turn that decision over to the people of the community. Twelve of those people gathered in a room, they heard the testimony and saw the evidence, and they said no, there is not enough evidence that even suggests Officer Wilson should be put on trial.
