Why hasnt @DWPgovuk and Penury Iain Duncan Smith been fired over #UniversalCredit fiasco? t.co/NfIzLOuMEQ The fact that #IDS has not been fired over the Universal Credit mess reflects the whole “I can’t do this but I reckon I can” attitude of 10 Downing Street, an environment where someone with “pretty strong views” on a subject but absolutely no idea what it will mean for people on the receiving end is given free reign to get stuck in. Try & remember the actual costs involved. And not just the millions upon millions of wasted hours of work and money but the human costs. The scheme has only been rolled out across a handful of local authorities and already there are thousands of people without the #benefits they are entitled to. Whose payments are delayed and go missing. There are people falling into #RentArrears and behind with their bills, people being threatened with #eviction, people nervously checking their bank accounts in the early hours of the morning to see if overdue money has come in so they can buy #food. These are people who have no other #SafetyNet. Of course, the hardship of a few “#scroungers” is unlikely to much trouble the sleep of IDS or the #Tory faithful who think Universal Credit is a good idea.
