Why is Ethiopia Poor? It is because of Ethiopians!!! Why is Ethiopia Poor? Ethiopia is poor because of Ethiopians. Ethiopians have no one to blame except for themselves. 1) The first and most important reason is Ethiopians have never accepted the fact that their country is one of poorest in the world. Most Ethiopians do not realize that they are from the poorest country in the world. They know that fact but they have never understood and internalized it. They don’t feel how bad it is to live in the poorest country in the world. Majority of Ethiopians seems to have a shield that protects them from realizing how embarrassing it is to be the poorest country in the world. All Ethiopians should accept this fact first. Then they will realize that they have to work harder than any person from any country in this world. 2) Majority of Ethiopians are religious people or grow up in religious life style therefore they believe that it is better to be poor than to be rich. They believe that to be financially successful in this world is against God’s command. They believe that money and prosperity is in contrary to religious life style. They are happy to live in what they have (stay poor) than work hard and improve their life styles. If you disagree with this point, what does the Bible say about rich people? If you read and believe what the Bible say about rich people, do you want to be rich? 3) Majority of Ethiopians spend their time celebrating religious icons than human innovators. For Orthodox Christians, every day of the month is dedicated to a religious icon. Orthodox Christians spend at least once a month eating and drinking celebrating a religious icon. Most people in Ethiopia know the history of a religious icon than Thomas Edison who contributed to the innovation of the most important tool in their household, the light bulb. In contrast, the western world celebrates men and women who contributed in the progress of humanity. Americans celebrate and learn from presidents, scientists and innovators who contributed for all people in the world while Ethiopians spend their time celebrating religious icons who did not contribute anything tangible not only for Ethiopians but also to the world. If you disagree with this point, here is a question. Who contributed innovative products for all Humanity? Zekuala Abo or Thomas Edison? [Unless you say Abo helped Edison innovate light bulb :) , the answer is obvious ] 4) If an Ethiopian gets rich, some Ethiopians still believe or assume that the person has received money from someone or Satan (the Devil) helped him/her get it. Rich people are rumored to have relation with the Devil. Rather than accept the fact that someone became rich by working hard, people come up with so many hilarious stories. I have heard many stories about rich Ethiopians such as they change to animals at midnight or 3:00AM or they have made a deal with Satan to have more customers. How many of you have heard such story about rich people? 5) Some Ethiopians do not have respect for Money and Time. Majority of Ethiopians spend their hard earned money (i.e time) buying and paying for coffee, drinks and food for their friends. They also spend considerable amount of time sitting at coffee shops, cafeteria and walking around the city. They are more likely to enjoy sitting idle or talk about people than find a second job or try to create their own business in their free time. 6) Most Ethiopians live a comfortable life style as if everything is fine and all things will be OK. While the rest of the world is living a stressful lifestyle trying to beat their competition and live a more prosperous life, most Ethiopians prefer to ignore the competition and live an easy life. It wouldn’t be bad if Ethiopians are rich people and taking a rest after long years of prosperity. However, most Ethiopians deliberately chose to live an easy life even though their country is the poorest country in the world. 7) Most Ethiopians have given up on their life in this world. They can’t accept the reality that with all the pride, history and unique culture, Ethiopia still feeds its people from foreign aid. The government budget depends on foreign fund from western countries. They can’t understand how Americans and Western countries are so rich and Ethiopians are poor. Rather than being motivated to work, they repeat their love for their country, show pride for their country and hold on their religious belief. For some, their only hope and choice is a better life after death with God in heaven than a prosperous Ethiopia. There are articles on the internet about Why Africa is poor?. The two main reasons mentioned by most of them are colonialism and slavery. Those reasons do not apply for Ethiopia. So why is Ethiopia poor? Ethiopia is poor because of Ethiopians.
