Why is anyone surprised at the assassination of police officers? When we allow citizens to arm themselves we invite anarchy. Why? In a civilized society strapping a gun on the hips of citizens invites confrontation with police. Ask yourselves how a public safety officer can determine whether a gun wielding person is a threat or not? Police are called because shoppers feel threatened by shoppers toting guns on the street and inside stores and even, God forbid, in Churches. Unfortunately Congress, state Legislatures and local government representatives got it wrong. Founding fathers encouraged citizens to arm themselves because there was no standing army or police when we formed our nation. Our actions in arming citizens are bringing us to the brink of anarchy. Our legislators are sad leaders because their job is to make laws and establish laws that protect us. They are responsible instead for stirring the pot that brought one mentally ill man to assassinate his girlfriend and one Latino and one Asian police officer. Without police there will be anarchy and those who want no government and a armed citizenry are inviting anarchy. I find these times troubling.
