Why is it that everyone can be so hip to the latest catch phrases of rappers and remembering the names of serial killers and child molesters, but if you ask someone if they know about the Higgs boson, they have not one bit of shame in admitting they have never heard of it. The latest monumental scientific discovery, the existence of the God particle as they call it, and for good reason. It is responsible for passing judgment on the mass of other particles. Not only is it something you should know about, but it should invigorate you. The existence of this particle is such a thing of beauty. My mind becomes a large Hedron collider when I think of it. Much of the information you find on the Higgs is written in drab prose, but you have to use your imagination, and even your imagination lacks the capacity to conceptualize the amazing things that truly humanly possible now a days
