Why kashmiris educated youths go for gun:Srinagar, June 13: The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani Thursday said the denial of opportunity to join peaceful political movementby New Delhi and state government was forcing thehighly qualified youth to jointhe militant ranks. “If the government of India continues with its repressive and tyrannical policy vis-à-vis Kashmir, it will have more terrible and disastrous consequences in future,” Geelani said while commenting on the statement of chief minister that the qualified youth have tendency to join militant ranks. “There is no need to go mad about this as it is a simple issue and even the innocent children are familiar with these hard realities,” said Geelani in a statement today, adding “it is the stubborn approach and the denial of political space that the youth are left with no option other than taking to arms and “sacrifice their lives for pious cause.” He said the use of brutal force to quell peaceful mass protests in 2008 and 2010 and the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru on February 9, 2013, were the main reasons that made theyouth rethink the strategy with respect to the freedommovement.” “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are very reasonable and mature. Sensing changing world scenario and new global trends, Kashmiri nation as a whole took to streets peacefully in 2008 and 2010.However, New Delhi did not respond to this peaceful struggle in a positive way and opted to crush people’s movement through barrel ofgun thereby muzzling the peaceful voice,” said Geelaniand added that “Omar Abdullah and his stooges in Kashmir have unleashed unprecedented atrocities onthe youth.” “125 youth fell to the bulletsof forces in year 2010 and 3800 were injured in indiscriminate firing incidents, rendering many handicapped. Hundreds of youth were implicated in fake cases, arrested and sent to jails. Their future was destroyed by police,” Geelani said. “The youth are witness to allthis and they now understand that New Delhi under the influence of its arrogance of power will in no way agree to provide political space or heed to their peaceful voice. This is the reason that they have opted to take to the guns again,” said Geelani. Referring to the secret hanging of Muhammad AfzalGuru in Tihar Jail and New Delhi’s refusal to return his body, Geelani said. “This is the reason that the youth prefer death to life of slavery and dishonor,” he said, adding that “there is nothing new about the educated youth joining the militant ranks. During last 23 years, thousands of youths laid their lives and they included highly educated boys including doctors, engineers and evenfew pilots who sacrificed their precious lives for the sacred cause.
