Why should you love Apple products? Heres why: Apple Depot Repair - their FLAT-RATE $350 fix-it-all service thats the deal of ANY millennium! Prices are less for other machines and iPhones/iPads. After FIVE years, my 15 Macbook Pro was having multiple issues…a stuck headphone jack that disabled ANY sound at all (be careful about cheapo patch cords you plug in there), including blue-tooth, failing USB ports, non-working Superdrive, and a trackpad that just wasnt responsive anymore, necessitating an outboard mouse. Finally, two replacement batteries just werent holding a charge. Just fixing the jack and USB ports requires a new logic board which, alone, is over $900. Id already put two $100 batteries in myself. My other choice was to spend another $3K for a new machine (that wouldnt have the superdrive, firewire and other existing ports?) Not THIS cost-conscious producer! I called Apple on Saturday and gave them the rundown of the problems. They billed my card $350 and on Tuesday morning a secure packing box arrived via Fedex. I backed up the machine (which I do daily anyway) removed my existing hard disc and extra memory and re-installed the original disc, memory and even the original dead battery. Put it all in the box and Fedex picked it up Tuesday afternoon - shipping prepaid by Apple! This morning the machine arrived back home - less than 48 hours later - with a completely new logic board, Superdrive and cable, AND a brand new battery! Re-installed my disc and memory and Im back in business. Best of all, so as not to be off the air, in the interim, I was able to rent an identical Macbook for $99 from the great folks at Mikes Tech Shop who will take care of ALL of this for you if you wish, for the same $350 - they dont even mark it up. That rental Macbook was able to run my original hard drive in an external dock I have, so it was exactly like my own computer. SO, for $450 I got what amounts to a brand new Macbook Pro for about 15% of the cost. I should get another 5 years out of this one and, most of all, it was a VERY pleasant experience. Hows THAT for a happy ending! mikestechshop
