Why talk about racism? In order to build a mass movement for moms - TopicsExpress

Why talk about racism? In order to build a mass movement for moms and families, no one can be left out. Ignoring racism only perpetuates it. Conversations about race in America are critical to building a better nation for all of us. The fact that structural racism permeates our country is a tragedy. In Missouri, the state where #MikeBrown died, the police pulled over Blacks at 66 percent higher rate than whites, and Blacks and Hispanics were both more likely to be searched, even though the likelihood of finding contraband was higher among whites. Nationally, the fact that Black people--including Black teens--are three times more likely than White people to be killed when they encounter the police in the US is a critical injustice and a crisis in our democracy. It doesnt have to be this way. There is so much hope in the demonstrations happening across the country calling for much needed reform and bringing change. Our criminal justice system is broken and its time to stand up and speak out. We can do better. With 120 demonstrations across the country and more than 1,000,000 letters already in to the The United States Department of Justice & The White House calling on #JusticeForMikeBrown, democracy isnt a spectator sport. People across the country are outraged that #MikeBrowns killer may never be held accountable and that structural racism is an everyday reality. But The United States Department of Justice has the power to prosecute Officer Wilson -- and together we can reform police policies nationwide. Organizations like MomsRising.org and more are coming together across the nation under the leadership of ColorOfChange.org. Check out the CNN article and then raise your voice too.
