Why there’s no love lost between Ugandan leader Museveni and former premier Raila. Most recently, the two politicians have clashed over Museveni’s decision to send troops to South Sudan as an intervention in the war between interests allied to President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar. Mr Odinga described President Museveni as an “opportunist” and asked him to withdraw his troops from South Sudan. According to Mr Odinga, President Museveni’s neutrality in the conflict was doubtful. “President Museveni has no moral authority to intervene in the on-going conflict in South Sudan. We demand that he first withdraws his troops from Migingo Island before sending troops to South Sudan,” said Mr Odinga. What else does he stand to gain from the war if not to gain the favour of regional leaders being the opportunist that he is? “Look at the way he has been handling those opposed to his ideologies in Uganda. How does he expect to maintain a neutral stand in the on-going conflict in South Sudan?” Mr Odinga asked at a rally in Kisumu last weekend.
