Why was Peter called Satan? Mark 8:32-33 “And he spake - TopicsExpress

Why was Peter called Satan? Mark 8:32-33 “And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.” Jesus spoke clearly and plainly about the need for His death, burial, and resurrection. Peter understood what Jesus was saying, but still could not resolve in his mind Jesus’ role as Messiah. So, he (Peter) began to rebuke the Lord hoping to spare Him from this suffering and death. Contrary to Peter’s awareness, his rebuke of Jesus Christ was a satanic attempt to thwart the work of Jesus on the cross. Peter obviously was not making a personal attack on Jesus; He thought he was doing a good thing. So Jesus’ rebuke was aimed at Satan who was visibly at the center of Peter’s thoughts. Peter was an unwitting spokesman for Satan! His mind was on the things of man, not the things of God. We as believers need to be very careful that we do not let Satan influence our minds and lives that we do the same thing. It is possible to love the Lord and yet speak for Satan! It is possible to be saved yet discourage others. It is conceivable be a Christian, yet sin like the world. Stay close to God and His Word. Go to church regularly! Study and read the Bible. You will get the victory. Pastor Wilson (1-17-2014)
