Whyteleafe 4.1 Beckenham Town The scoreline could be considered slightly flattering but Leafes superior power going forward proved the main factor in this hard fought but ultimately comfortable win against a tricky Beckenham side. Whilst Beckenham enjoyed a lot of possession in the 1st half they always looked vulnerable at the back against a fast flowing Leafe front line conducted by the impressive Sam Clayton. In fact it was a clever through ball from Clayton to DSane that led to the 1st goal. Dsane getting enough power on his shot to ensure that the Beckenham keepers touch on the ball wasnt enough to stop it going into net. So 1-0 to Leafe after 13 minutes and it would only take another 5 minutes for the lead to be doubled after a powerful inswinging corner from Thompson was headed in on the line by that man again, Sam Clayton. The pace and movement of Clayton and DSane continued to cause problems during the rest of the half ably assisted by Andrews and Fowler on the flanks but alas there were no further Leafe goals. In fact Beckenham could have had a couple themselves but for poor finishing. The 2nd half was a stifled affair early on with the majority of the pressure coming from Beckenham who got their just rewards in the 55th minute with a well taken goal from Ramsamy. Leafe continued to labour and it didnt take long for Leafe boss John Fowler to ring the changes and make a double substitution bringing on Pitterson and Taylor Smith for Fowler and Andrews. The substitution breathed some new life into the Leafe attack with Taylor Smiths pace especially causing renewed problems for the Beckenham defence. Leafe finally got their 3rd goal on 68 minutes when Dsane was fouled by Wise off the ball in the area and Thompson stepped up to power home the resulting penalty. With the game seemingly won Fowler made his final change of the match bringing on the experienced midfielder Robbie Kember for Dsane. The result was put beyond any doubt in the 85th minute when the 2nd of consecutive corners was delivered to a crowded goal mouth and after a mad scramble Taylor Smith leapt higher than anyone else to head home his 1st and Leafes 4th. So 3 more points see Leafe move 4 points clear at the top but lets not forget Ashford do have 2 games in hand. Still all to play for!
