Wife dies in I-10 crash near Slidell after she and husband argue in vehicle SLIDELL--Wednesday evening shortly after 8:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash took place approximately half a mile before the U.S. 190 Business/Fremaux Ave. exit and took the life of 25 year old Gautier, MS resident Lauren Gregor. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Gregor’s husband, 24 year old Cody Rafter also of Gautier, MS, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Interstate 10. As the Chevrolet continued eastbound on Interstate 10, the couple became involved in a verbal altercation during which time Gregor grabbed and jerked the steering wheel violently to the right. As a result, the Chevrolet rotated clockwise as it traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Gregor, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently became trapped under the Chevrolet as it came to rest. Gregor was transported to Ochsner Northshore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Rafter was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries in the crash. Impairment is not suspected at this time pending toxicology analysis. Troopers urge all motorists and passengers to make good choices while riding in vehicles. Poor decisions such as driving while impaired, not wearing a seat belt, and allowing distractions in the vehicle often result in life changing consequences for everyone involved. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
