Wigmen: It‘s Lae or nothing The Hela Wigmen remains firm in its decision to have the Digicel Cup grand finalchanged to Lae and are not considering any other venue.Wigmen club chairman, Andy Hetra explained that the Wigmen’s stance on the grand final venue was not only about the club, but also about making a statement forthe competition.“We can’t have a situation where 99% of the supporters are Gurias and 1% are Wigmen supporters. The grand final should be played in Lae. Lae is the most neutral venue,” said Hetra. When asked about the security issues and standard of the Lae Rugby League Oval, Hetra said these were only trivial matters that could be addressed by the PNGNRL and Wigmen.“We are prepared to pay to beef up security. Our governor and leaders have appealed to the Hela people to maintain peace and not to cause trouble and plus, crowd violence happens everywhere in theworld.“Also, the Lae Rugby League Oval has beenhosting Digicel Cup games for the whole season, so why can’t we play the grand final there?,” said Hetra.Hetra says the Wigmen were not afraid to play at Kalabond but said he felt there was no consideration in the decision made by the PNGNRL.“We are not afraid of playing at the grave yard. The Vipers and Tigers have beaten the Gurias at home and we can too. But this is about fairness and playing the final game at a neutral venue. It’s Lae or nothing,” said Hetra.
