Wild speculation begins in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... Microsoft bought Mojang for Minecarfts audience more than for Minecraft. They wont touch the game much itself, but theyll put it on whatever their new PC platform is thats going to replace GFWL. Everyone using Minecraft will then instantly become a member of said new platforms userbase, meaning that platform is instantly legitimate to anyone looking at what platforms they should be publishing on. 100 million users is a very big slice of pie, even if you only get a few bites of it. Minecraft will become the flagship of this new WinLive platform, acting as their TF2. It will glue the users together. Much like TF2 has special promotions, there will be special promotions for Minecraft. Buy GAME X and you get a special Minecraft skin or mod based on GAME X, like you might with a TF2 hat. This plan moves Minecraft players into other games on your service, and it moves other players into Minecraft, feeding the cycle perpetually. I doubt that MS would implement the plan as effectively as Valve has, or that they would restrain themselves enough to not flood the market with custom Minecraft stuff, but still... I am starting to think more and more that this is the plan. The purchase of Mojang wasnt about Minecraft specifically, but it was about the userbase and how that could be turned - finally - into a potentially successful bid at being a real player in the PC Gaming space. /WildSpeculation
