Wildflower Friday during National Wildflower Week, we present - TopicsExpress

Wildflower Friday during National Wildflower Week, we present Antennaria dimorpha, commonly called low pussytoes. This small mat-forming perennial is native to western North America and British Columbia. You can find this plant blooming early May through June throughout central and southern Idaho. The leaves, a distinctive silver-green, grow in patches and support numerous flowers, each on its own stem. The erect flowers are only a few centimeters tall and are dark brown and green. Low pussytoes is found in dry, open rimrock areas and meadows, primarily in the foothills of Idaho. This plant provides great ground cover, promoting soil stability, and is consumed by the greater sage-grouse. Become a botanist for the day! Using trail maps and wildflower guides available to you at the BLM Shoshone field office, you can identify this and other native plants around you. BLM Shoshone Field office: 400 West F Street, Shoshone, ID.
