It is notable as it is the first song recorded by an all girl group to become a #1 hit in the U.S in 1961. Shirley Owens who was the lead singer, refused to record it thinking the song was too country sounding. She thankfully changed her mind..... I remember the version I like best that was recorded by Dave Mason, which I first heard while at one of the summertime free concerts held NYCs Central Park back in the day.
