Long time ago, I was in the midst of building the house in MacDonald County Mo. Preparing to cut a pair of stair - #2 2 x 12 yellow pine. drew out cuts on one, measured again, found an error. Did not allow for bottom tread. Turned the board over, drew another one, checked it every which way I could think of and could not bring myself to start sawing. Then I recalled the many times I used a scalpel to cut tissue inside a mouth. It dawned on me that while I was careful, I did not hesitate to make access to bone and reflect tissue to remove a wisdom tooth (3rd molars) and other general dentist procedures. The next thought was that I was a wuss. Concerned about making a mistake cutting a piece of wood that could be replaced if necessary and no fear in cutting tissue to be of service to a human that could not be replaced. So away I went. Turned out fine. Tread were plumb, true, square and fair to the weather when finished. Basement to first floor. First floor to loft a piece of cake Moral , do what you know and be willing to learn new things and always work like a really smart kid.
