Willetton school closed all week: WILLETTON Senior High School - TopicsExpress

Willetton school closed all week: WILLETTON Senior High School will be closed for the remainder of the week after asbestos residue was found at the school.Department of Education deputy director general David Axworthy said residue was found during a routine hazardous materials survey late last week. “We were not willing to take any risks with student and staff safety, so the decision was taken before students were due to return from holidays, to close the school so further inspections and testing could be done,” he said. Asbestos residue was found in a building being renovated as part of the school’s multi-million dollar rebuild. Parents were advised of the asbestos discovery at about 7.30pm last night and told not to send children to school. School board chairman Lindsay Holland said only a handful of students arrived at school this morning, which he said was good considering 1800 students attended the school. Independent consultants and the Department of Finance’s building management and works team undertook visual inspections and air testing at the school today. dlvr.it/6NzFG3 #NEWSANDVIEWSLocalNews (inMyCommunity) #perth #perthnews
