William Dalrymple mentioned of the dwindling Armenian population - TopicsExpress

William Dalrymple mentioned of the dwindling Armenian population in Turkey since 1915. It is said that approximately 15 lac Armenian were either exterminated or forced to leave the country. Many of them had since migrated to Europe and rest are looking forward to emigrate in the earliest opportunity. The Armenian churches were destroyed, forced to desert or converted into mosques. In Dier el Zaferin there were 7 churches 5 were completely demolished. In a nearby village effort was taken to demolish all Armenian symbols, including the church. The village headman objected because the church is now used as a temporary garage, greenery and other whats not!! Max Galstaun can better describe if things are any better here, because Armenian properties worth hundreds of crores are being usurped, seized or otherwise occupied. However I have a recent interaction with a Turkish Muslim lady. On an interaction of radical Islamisation where I suggested that Muslims should adopt a moderate view and try to think of ones own, rather than be guided by mullah. She has tweeted me: go back to your country and old religion and rephrase your statement. Dalrymple has himself given an example of how the present day Turkish feel about other religious thoughts or different viewpoints. Fr Abraham has revealed that the common refrain of the Turkish army is to wish all Armenian to leave the country and go to Europe from where Christians have come. They dont even know, similar to their fundamentalist Indian counterparts in large political parties, the history of evolution of religion. These Armenian people were there in anatolia even before Islam was prophesied. In fact Muslims were invaders in turkey and forcibly occupied the land and coerced an entire race to change their religion.... In all societies where extremist ideology thrive, the reigning religion always try to brand minorities as the sources of all evils. The picture in turkey is therefore no different from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India...
