William Ebeling Scheuer 07-29-1920 to 08-29-2014 A true testament to life and love. A rare and beautiful life, a blessing to all. Thursday Aug. 21st at 4pm Dad took a terrible turn for the worst. His doctor was at the bedside with my sister Julie and told her to call all the family back in. He suspected a heart attack had occurred with severe congestive heart failure. He gave morphine, ativan and lasix to make Dad comfortable. He offered to let us take dad home but did not think he would survive the ambulance ride. The doctor said if he lived through the night, we could take him home on comfort measures to die. Friday dad came home in the ambulance with my brother Bill, when they put him in the bed, he said I am home. He spent a restful night. Saturday he awoke bright eyed and back to his normal self mentally. The family was there and he told each a every one how much he loved them and much more. He was able to see and talk with his grand-daughter Sarah in Thailand and his granddaughter Jessica in Texas via lap-top. We put his family and friends from West Virginia on speaker phone so he could say good-bye. His doctor called to check on him and found it unbelievable that Dad was awake, talking and recognizing each and every person. I put him on the phone with Dad and he said how are you doctor, and thanked him. Later that afternoon Dad was sleeping and began Cheyne -Stoke breathing and we all thought the end was near. Tears, hugs, kisses, prayers and good-byes were said. He then opened his eyes.. looked at mom.. told herI love you Lou and that he would wait for her at Heavens Gate. (previously he told her he could not leave without her). I am so grateful for that UNBELIEVABLE and INCREDIBLE week-end with him. I know what a RARE GIFT we all received and I am so thankful to Dad and to God. Dad steadily declined as the week went on but was comfortable and pain free. On Friday morning I told him I loved him and that I had to go home for a few hours to support my kids through the funeral of their Grandpa Henry Rosquin who died on August 8th and I would be back in a few hours. He died peacefully at 12:10pm in the loving arms of Mom, my sister Paula and sister in law Sally, I was on the freeway headed back when he took his last breath. And that was Dads final gift to me, remembering everything but the final trauma of the end. When I close my eyes...I can see him standing at Heavens Gate waiting for Mom.
