William Tyndale pioneered the translation of Scripture into the English language. He thought it was wrong that common people heard the Bible only in Latin and not in their own language. The church leaders of his day did not want the Bible to reach everyman because they feared loosing their authority. Nevertheless, William Tyndale translated the New Testament into English and had it published. For his efforts he was rewarded with exile, poverty, and persecution. Finally, in 1536, he was strangled and burned at the stake. The convicting question that instantly comes to my mind is what are WE willing to do for the spread of the gospel message of the Bible "to the end of the earth"? Acts 1:8.
