Williamson River Ride May 10,2014 I awake feeling excited, - TopicsExpress

Williamson River Ride May 10,2014 I awake feeling excited, anxious and a wee bit concerned this morning as I saddle Mr. GW in the snow, for he was a total pill of pill’s tied to the trailer yesterday. He is truly a late bloomer: with his attitude and growth, a bit taller, bit wider and watching his moves in the field….well I would really be in trouble if he decided to break in half. But what the heck “why live on the safe side” I pulled my big girl bloomers up and finished saddling. The weather was looking ominous to say the least, dark clouds moving rapidly, rays of sun shine attempting a peak-a-boo, pellets of hail and then the occasionally blizzard of a white out. I thought to myself “what a grand day for a ride” and a ride with others horses to boot. Usually I’m alone in the woods to think to myself and about others I’ve met the last week, rewind their stories in my head and to understand what part of life they must be walking through now. Times in the woods like this allow me to listen to a different part of my life and ponder words running and streaming through with the hopes they make it onto paper. I am so looking forward to the music that I will hear in the dirt, rocks and sagebrush along with the occasional swipe of a branch against my coat. But today will be a bit different, for I will not be alone on my ride, though I know most of the people that are going my horses and I haven’t been with them on an outing. Sounds silly for sure though I do recall a ride Mom and I took years ago and one of the riders was on a stud horse, my first thoughts felt uneasy, but after watching how he was being handled all was fine. Just as this day was, everybody involved was terrific, helping each other when needed and just enjoying the views and the laughter involved. This is the first group that I have ever joined, horseback that is, and I love it. The common thread that holds horse and rider together is as tough as any that is sewn. A machine that binds this thread is held because of common thoughts, beliefs and the love of equine along with the great outdoors, all the more important reason to stand for and stand up in what you think are the rights and wrongs with something you love. Organizations like the Back Country Horseman do just that, staying informed of the legal processes and new laws that are being looked at by our governing nation and how they may affect us. I am not just plugging BCH, my statement holds true for your own personal passions and loves of life, take the time and get involved and set the standard of involvement to your children and grandchildren. Stepping down from my box now! And can’t wait until the next ride…..;)
