Willie DhlandhlaraYou are right on incentives vs motivation. Incentives are a form of extrinsic motivation but cannot result in the full realisation of desired orginisational objecties in the absence of intrinsically motivated people/workers/staff. There is what is called performance related pay (PRP). This implies performance incentives as opposed to prefixed and guaranteed incentives even before one performs any task. Such incentives tend to be uniform for all prsonnel in the the same grade regardless of effort and results produced by each. With PRP the "incentive" is awarded post performance as would have been evaluated. So for best results, I would argue that people need to be motivated intrinsically first and foremost, with incentives modelled along the lines of PRP being the icing on the cake
