Wilson Memorial High School Gets Set for 2014 August 6, 2014 at 5:57 PM Wilson Memorial high school came up just a few games short of advancing to the VHSL 2A state finals in 2013. The Green Hornets fell to Goochland 32-14 in the second round of the 2013 state playoffs. Head Coach Jeremiah Major is using the loss to fuel the team for 2014. Everybody remembers your last game. I mean we went 10-2 last year, but its always the last game everybody remembers you by, so we want to try and have our last game end in a victory. Last season the Green Hornets placed first in the Shenandoah district going 7-0 in league play with a plus 13 turnover differential. The team rides into 2014 with high expectations, but coach Major knows the focus for his team is taking it one day at a time. We cant look forward to the end because weve got to take the steps in that ladder one rung at a time. Its more important we start with our scrimmages and fine tune after the scrimmages and figure out what we need to work on so that come week one were ready for Waynesboro. The Green Hornets averaged over 31 points per game in 2013. Defensively they allowed just 18 points on average. The team returns most of last years starters, and the team feels like theres room for improvement. Senior quarterback Mack Cullen says, the team has been working the past few months together. We took a lot of time in the off season to kind of fine tune our offense...our motto is three yards and a cloud of dust and were just keeping that. Weve been doing it the past four or five years. Senior safety Thai Wright believes the Green Hornets can do big things in 2014. Most of the returners they came back, we only lost...three people on defense so its basically the same people. Were used to playing with each other. Weve been playing together since little league. The expectations this year is take it all the way.
