Wimborne go down 4-3 at Cirencester Another glut of goals, but this time more than half went in at the wrong end for Wimborne. After trailing 2-0 after 50 minutes, goals from Mark Gamble (2) and James Stokoe brought the score to 3-3, but with five minutes to go another by Cinderford clinched the result in the home teams favour. Jason Harvell, replacing Dan Ackerman in goal, was the only change from the last two games. Mark Gamble, now again available, started on the bench, along with Scott Arnold and Aidan Sainsbury. It was a bad start for Wimborne when, after five minutes, Sam Griffin was adjudged to have fouled Sean Wood in the penalty area and Steve Davies duly scored from the spot. It looked to be a very harsh decision. For a long time the half was pretty evenly balanced with few chances at either end, but as the half progressed the home team, with a gusty following wind, started to get on top and created a few chances. Wood went close with a glancing header and Lee Smith twice cut in from the left to force Jason Harvell into saves at the near post. With the wind behind them Wimborne could hope to retrieve things in the second half. But within five minutes they went further behind when Cirencester bemused the defence with an excellent move culminating in Smith firing in unchallenged from 10 yards. Almost immediately there were chanced at both ends. Cirencester went wide of the post twice while at the other end their keeper, Glyn Garner did well to prevent an own goal off a defenders head, and Matt Kemble fired over from 25 yards. It was time, maybe beyond time, for the leagues leading scorer Mark Gamble to take to the field, together with Aidan Sainsbury. After 12 minutes Gambo ran on to a great through ball from James Stokoe and went to ground under challenge from a defender. It was now the home teams time to complain as the ref pointed to the spot, but that was on no concern to Gamble as he fired in comprehensively. Jamie Davidson came close to an equaliser with a free kick well tipped over by Garner, but on 75 minutes Cirencester restored their two goal advantage when another passing move was too good for the Wimborne defence and substitute Shane Bumbphrey finished off. Within a minute the lead was reduced again when a neat one-two between Gamble and Stokoe set up Stokoe to score with a low shot across the face of the goal. Wimborne were now on top and on 83 minutes an imaginative flick over the defence by Sainsbury gave Gamble the opportunity to bundle the ball into the net for the equaliser. It looked as though Wimborne had salvaged at least a point, but two minutes later another good move set up Sean Wood to claim the win for Cirencester with a fierce shot from the right. Overall it was a highly entertaining game, with good football from both sides. Cirencesters three outfield goals were skilful, involving a good level of understanding between their players, which opened up the Wimborne defence, perhaps too easily. But one can only wonder what might have been if Mark Gamble, who was involved in all three Wimborne goals, had spent more time on the pitch.
