Wings (mallard) laid a couple of small soft eggs at the beginning - TopicsExpress

Wings (mallard) laid a couple of small soft eggs at the beginning of nesting season, then nothing until today, when she came in walking a little off, just enough for me to notice, then later I found 3 soft blobby eggs on the floor. She was staying inside even though there were rain puddles to play in. Shes eating and resting now, seeming normal, but Im worried. She is an imprinted inside/outside duck. Shes 5 years old. She used to lay perfect eggs until last year when she had several blobby ones, and she slacked off on laying regularly. Then there is Payton, only 6 months old, just started laying a few weeks ago, and is sometimes laying two soft eggs in the mornings, of a small and normal size, and Im worried that it could be the start of a problem. Do the young ones in their first laying cycle sometimes have problems or is this unusual? She is a crested Pekin, so could this be a neurological problem? Payton is kept in a safe Pekin pen and not allowed to be free range. Payton had her first of our/her future annual vet exams just a few weeks ago (before Payton started to lay), and she checked out fine then.
