Winkelmann, Post 1 blank Merrimack FROM STAFF REPORTS LACONIA — The Laconia Wilkins-Smith Post 1 baseball team climbed above the .500 mark with its second straight victory. Post 1 took advantage of several Merrimack miscues in posting an 11-0 victory here at Memorial Park on Wednesday evening. Laconia, who bested Keene on Sunday16-6, moves to 3-2 on the young season. Against Merrimack, Laconia received a stellar pitching performance from Alex Winkelmann and cashed in on every opportunity en route to the shutout win. Post 1 had just six hits on the day, but made the most of them. Winkelmann scattered four hits over nine innings, striking out eight and walking two in the win. “Pretty much everything was working for him,” Post 1 manager Joe Dee said. “He is a great kid to have because he is not afraid to throw his curve when he’s down 3-0. Tonight, everything was working and he mixed it up real good.” Laconia got six hits from five different players. Brian Baca led the way, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Ryder Arsenault finished 1 for 3 with three RBIs, while Brandon Krueger (2 runs) and Dom DeBlasie (2 runs, RBI) both finished 1-4. Gunnar Stecher went 1 for 1 with two runs scored. “They made a lot of mistakes and we took advantage of them,” said Post 1 manager Joe Dee. Against Keene, Post 1 brought the bats and banged out 20 hits in rolling to the 16-6 win. Krueger led the offensive assault, going 5 for 6 with three doubles and six RBIs. Baca was 3-4 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs and Arsenault went 3 for 5 with three runs. Also contributing to the offensive show were Trevor Chapin (3 for 4 with a double, 4 runs, 2 RBI), Graham Nyhan (2-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Steven Levasseur (1-5), Chris Gagne (1-3, run, RBI), and Stecher (1-3, run, RBI). Anthony Camaione picked up the win in relief with 4.1 strong innings. He allowed four hits while striking out seven and walking just three. Camaione came on for starter Graham Nyhan, who allowed three earned runs on six walks while striking out three. Winkelmann came on to pitch a hitless ninth, with one strikeout. Post 1 is off until Sunday when they head to Bedford for a 7 p.m. contest.
