Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 pm EST Wednesday. Locations: southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. Hazard types: freezing rain, sleet and snow. Accumulations: ice accumulation of One-quarter to around One- half inch. Snow and sleet is expected to accumulate up to 4 to 7 inches across portions of inland Pender County County and Columbus County. Closer to the coast, snow and sleet amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected. Timing: The Heaviest wintry precipitation is expected late this afternoon through tonight. Light snow may linger into Wednesday morning. Winds: north 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures: falling into and through the 20s. Wind chills will fall to around 10 degrees tonight. Impacts: This is a very dangerous situation, ice storms are very rare for the coastal Carolinas. Very Dangerous travel is expected to develop as roads become ice and snow covered. Where significant snow falls, blowing and drifting will cause severely reduced visibility. Bridges will be icy and extremely hazardous. There may be lengthy power interruptions due to ice and snow accumulation on power lines as winds gust up to 30 mph during the height of the storm. The weight of the ice may also bring down tree limbs or topple whole trees.
