Winter has hit the southern hemisphere and it’s a gorgeous time to be on a South African safari. The sun rises a bit later, giving guests an extra half an hour to snuggle in bed before their morning game drive. Toasty hot water bottles and cosy blankets keep everyone warm until the sun slowly heats up the day. The landscape has transformed: the leaves have changed colour; the vegetation has thinned out; the golden grasses glow in the afternoon light; and visibility is fantastic in terms of game viewing. It is the perfect time to be outdoors to appreciate winter’s beauty. From piping hot chocolate with Amarula in the mornings to red wine shared around a blazing fire in the evenings, we always make sure our guests are warm, happy and well fed. The team at #andBeyond Kirkman’s Kamp has taken it a step further, creating their own surprise soup stop to delight guests during the winter months. Tables are set up in the middle of the bush for unsuspecting guests, complete with flasks filled with hot homemade soup, freshly-baked bread, butter, mugs, spoons and romantic lanterns to set the mood. What a fantastic way for everyone to fill up, keep warm and enjoy the view as the sun sets. andbeyond/kirkmans-kamp
