Winter is coming and here are some helpful tips to protect yourself and your vehicle from the harsh weather we may experience: If you have any questions feel free to message me Have your coolant and windshield washer fluid checked for thier freezing point! Most shops have a tool called a hydrometer that will test the coolant/anti-freeze which is best at -34° F but those wont work for your washer fluid so we recomend putting some in a water bottle and putting it in your freezer for a couple days (most freezers sit at about 0° F) Keep your gas tank as full as possible, The moisture in the cold air can freeze if the temps drop low enough and the more fuel you have the less air you will have in your tank/ fuel lines. Try to avoid using products such as HEET and other fuel anti-freeze they sell at the auto parts stores. If you use an additive use an entire bottle of SeaFoam with every full tank of gas. This can get expensive but has tons of benefits and can save you a lot in the long run! Make sure you have a good set of windshield wipers. Avoid the cheapos and get a really good brand. The extra money up front will save you in the long run! If you dont have a garage you may look into getting a remote starter with keyless entry! That way you can warm up your vehicle without worrying about it getting stolen! Usually run about $200 - $400 depending on the vehicle and the options you choose. ( We do sell and install those here at Discount Auto Repair, and they are on special) Call 317-894-4000 for more details or message myself, Adam Humphress Have your vehicle inspected by a local repair shop. Call around you should be able to find someone to do it for free. Brakes, Tires, Suspension, engine performance, etc. Youll want to make your all systems are good to go before the weather arrives. Make your self an emergency stash and keep it in your trunk. blankets hand warmers a small pick ax or garden shovel, sand, flashlight with batteries ( dont leave the batteries in the flash light they will drain over time) snow boots, etc the more you prepare the better off youll be in a sticky situation Have a local tow truck companys contact info in your phone and a hard copy in your car at all times, you never know when u may need it! Stay tuned for more helpful hints as we draw closer Winter
