Instead, he found the terminal quiet and the lines short. “This isn’t bad at all,” said Sontag, 51, a former Paramus resident now living in New Hope, Pa. Their flight Wednesday from Newark Airport, like dozens of others, was delayed for an hour. Charlie Ramirez, 19, had been so convinced Newark Liberty would be hell on earth that he’d left his Princeton dorm room four hours before his flight. “I thought we’d spend hours just going through security,” said Ramirez, a sophomore. “I’m surprised. This is totally fine.” In fact, out of all the travelers seen at the airport, only Claudia Carvajal was spotted resting, her head on her aunt’s shoulder.
