Winter’s gray dreary skies and cold and flu season can bring you down if you’re not prepared. You know the routine; time off from work, sick kids, and sleepless nights from coughing, sneezing and nose blowing. Add in a touch of the winter blues and you are one hot mess! This year, plan to head it all off at the pass! Be prepared! Come and learn how to use simple tools that can really help make this winter a breeze! Repeat after me, “I refuse to live in a bubble, I refuse to get sick, I will be prepared this year!” Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) may be experienced by six of every 100 people in the United States, according to statistics by the American Academy of Family Physicians. It is also estimated that another 10% to 20% may experience some mild form of SAD, more commonly referred to as the winter blues. This years flu vaccine is not as effective as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had hoped. The strain of flu virus has mutated since the production of the current vaccination and is therefore not included in this year’s vaccination. The current vaccinations still offer some protection, but they will be less effective against this altered strain. Compounding the problem: H3N2 strains tend to be particularly harsh among older populations. A bad flu season may be underway.
