Wisconsin DNR, trappers to offer wolf trapping lessons Article by: Associated Press - September 7, 2014 MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin wildlife officials, the state trappers association and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are set to offer a series of wolf-trapping workshops this fall. There are five wolf trapper education workshops scheduled for 2014. All workshops begin at 9 a.m. and go through 4 p.m. Break materials will be provided; however, due to remote locations, attendees need to bring their own bag lunch. The cost of the workshop is $15, and will be held in several locations during the fall of 2014. September 13, 2014 - Northern Pines Golf Course, 69420 Airport Rd., Iron River September 20, 2014 - Crex Wildlife Area Education Center, 102 E. Crex Ave., Grantsburg September 27, 2014 - Furbearer Resources Training Center, 4439 Buckley Rd., Madison October 4, 2014 - Mead Wildlife Area, S2148 County Road S, Milladore October 11, 2014 - Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom, 4321 South Shore Dr., Rhinelander Pre-registration is required. Preference will be given to those with a 2014 wolf harvest permit. For more information and to register, please contact John Irwin, wolf trapper education coordinator. Each workshop will cover the basic wolf season framework, wolf ecology, trapper ethics and hands-on trap-setting lessons. The cost is $15. People with a 2014-15 wolf harvest permit will get first preference. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials say the workshops wont fulfill the basic trapper education requirements need to legally trap a Wisconsin wolf, however.
