Wisdom - The dictionary offers several definitions for the word “wisdom.” It says that wisdom is the ability to discern or rightly judge a matter and then follow the soundest course of action. Wisdom is a deep, thorough, and mature understanding that comes from knowledge and experience in life. Philosophically, wisdom is making the best use of available knowledge and gives us the ability to make sound and sensible decisions. In comparison, knowledge is defined as the accumulation of information and facts about a specific subject or matter; and wisdom is the ability to use that information in the most discerning and prudent way. Every place that you see the word “wisdom” in the KJV New Testament (except for one verse) it is the Greek #4678 “sophia” which the Vines Dictionary defines as insight into the true nature of things. The Bible makes a distinction between worldly wisdom and the wisdom that comes from God. I Corinthians 3:19 says, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.” In I Corinthians 2:6,7 The Apostle Paul writes, “Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory.” The wisdom of the world is a necessary part of our education, but it’s knowledge is limited to the natural world’s system and order of things. The wisdom that comes from God has a higher and more exalted goal. The Amplified says, “...we do impart a higher wisdom (the knowledge of the Divine plan .... once hidden from the human understanding, and now revealed to us by God; that wisdom which God devised and decreed before the ages for our glorification [to lift us into the glory of His presence].” God’s wisdom is designed to raise us up into a higher state of being, to impart the full revelation of God’s plan and purpose for our lives, and to lift us into the glory of His presence. earn wisdom.
