Wisdom from Heaven Leaders are expected to possess great wisdom; and to my experience, some leaders are very wise and some are not. Good leaders are constantly seeking wisdom through reading about leadership theory and following other leaders’ advice. Wisdom of this world will take leaders to a certain degree of worldly success, but it will always fall short of God’s expectations for leadership. To achieve God’s wisdom, we can put the self-help books aside and pick up the Bible. As we study God’s word, we can ask God for his wisdom and actively seek to use it daily as we lead his children. “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of goodness.” (James 3: 17-18) God’s wisdom is quiet, gentle, peace loving, and courteous. It is not strong-willed, and it allows for others to participate. It is full of mercy. It is wholehearted, straightforward, and sincere; and if used properly, God’s wisdom will produce a harvest of goodness. In short, God’s wisdom serves as the foundation for Christian leadership. Dear Father, Thank you for your wisdom. It is the only wisdom that provides peace and comfort. I will remember to ask for your wisdom every day as I lead your children. Amen
