Wish I had a relevant picture to post but my father was a highly decorated full Colonel in the U.S. Army having served in both Korea and the Vietnam wars. His best friends tank was disabled in Korea and he was told to retreat, instead he saved Neil Downeys life. For the rest of Neils life he called my father on the anniversary of that day and thanked him for his life. When my father died in 1990, Neil continued calling my mother on that day until he died. My father commanded his troops in a helicopter in Vietnam hovering over the battlefield. We had fire bases named after each of us, some of which were important battles covered on the news. He was shot down Christmas Day and survived. He never told us until he returned home. Ive always questioned the motives behind politicians sending troops to war. Usually it has nothing to due with our freedom. I actively protested the Vietnam War. It was a problem for the two of us but I told my father that he had put his life on the line for his convictions, I was just another protester. Thanks to all the veterans who have served. Thank you dad. I only wish our politicians cared more about you before they send you to war.
