With Cara Baldwin and Juliette Yuan at lunch at MoMA yesterday - TopicsExpress

With Cara Baldwin and Juliette Yuan at lunch at MoMA yesterday during the Curative Object event, I listed how Ive grown & been healed from working on my PhD diss: 1, I did all the homework Id avoided all my life- a very good thing. 2. I learned to persist in my ideas despite criticisms, detours and questions. 3. I learned to adapt my daily life to long hours of commitment to difficult tasks 4. I learned to deal with colleagues I had to write about with generosity, honesty, dispassion, thoughtfulness and clarity about my own priorities. 5. I became willing to be intellectually wrong, while continuing to ask questions to pursue the truth. 6. I became willing to fail, take deserved criticism and be challenged without crumbling or giving up and while continuing the discourse 7. I began taking ownership for what I accomplished, being willing to engage in and be courageous about the process. 8. I came to accept and engage with authority in healthy ways. 9. I became far more willing to explore both challenging and difficult ideas in my own practice. 10. The value of patience. These are the reasons Ive said in the past, that it would be worthwhile for everyone to do a PhD.
