With Christmas in mind, Ive made you a version of Bill Evans Santa Claus is Coming to Town for jazz piano solo, based on a transcription by William Hughes. The complete transcription has 8 pages and, well, its long and has some very tricky parts - to say nothing of the left hand 10ths. Ive taken what I think are the best jazzy bits, run them together to make a very reduced, playable for all sized hands, 2 pages approx. Although William Hughes transcription could not be better, the feel of jazz as we know is something hard to put on paper. So, if youd like to play this piece - perhaps this Christmas - and would like a bit of extra help with those jazz rhythms, touch and fingering, a related Play Along piano lesson divides the piece into short practice sections which, if you wish, you can play along with at a slower tempo in repeated loops.
