With a small break in the rain drops, Nature Explorers Anguilla - TopicsExpress

With a small break in the rain drops, Nature Explorers Anguilla was able to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Sunday the 11th of May. The big rain brought our east end wetlands back to life and provided some great views of a number of species. The stars of the show on both Long and East End Pond, were the Willets and Whimbrels. We did see a pair of Red Knots but they were too fast for a photograph. More seabirds are coming onshore with both Laughing Gulls and Royal Terns roosting among the Least Tern Colon on Long Pond. A large number of Least Tern egg clutches were seen on the dry sand spit. A great sign on a day that was also a special day for mothers everywhere. Like clockwork each year, this threatened species comes on the main island to nest and raise their young. We will continue to monitor their progress and keep you posted on hatchlings. Here are a few pictures of the morning event.
