With all this hype on the ice bucket challenge to raise - TopicsExpress

With all this hype on the ice bucket challenge to raise money/awareness for ALS, it got me thinking. There are several [hundreds] disorders/conditions/diseases that people are unaware of or are in need of funding. One disorder that hits home for me is ASD, which stands for autism spectrum disorder. My son, {Rylan} who is 3 going on 4, was diagnosed with ASD in March of this year. To me, Autism is just a label my son has for his special needs. He really is just like any other kid. Hes loving, energetic, smart, creative, daring, thoughtful, funny, talkative, talented and so much more. It may not be totally obvious all the time but thats because hes one of a kind (everyone is) and his mind works differently than those of other kids. I often get funny looks, glares, or even snoody comments when my son is behaving a certain way [that is unfamiliar to strangers] and I have to remind myself that THEY are the ignorant ones. One little favor I am asking all of you, who took the time to read this, is educate yourselves just a little on ASD [Autism] and help spread the word! ninds.nih.gov/disorders/autism/detail_autism.htm As a mother of a special needs child, please accept my child for who he is. Just as you would expect me to accept yours. Thank you for reading 😊
