With clear to partly cloudy skies and a cool breeze blowing, the day was perfect for a birthday, for Founders Day 2014. Throughout the morning and afternoon, the sultry sounds of the bands Sultry Sounds and Yes Maam, a trio of USO-style singers from Bayard, NE, carried across the grounds around the visitors center where one could witness and participate in, among other things, atl atl throwing, flintknapping, and yucca-fiber weaving demonstrations. Other activities included fossil cast painting, guided hikes to the fossil hills, talks, and a cake-cutting. Thanks to all who came and made for a wonderful 98th birthday celebration commemorating the 1916 creation of the National Park Service.
