With everything i have witnessed, heard, experienced from the aftermath of Supertyphoon Haiyan/ Yolanda, i am trying my best not to rant. Really i am. So instead ill offer some food for thought. horrendous after the recent quake in Japan, Japanese troops were sent out to look for and help survivors, survey the damage so that the govt. could more effeciently come up with strategies to send help where its needed the most. After the typhoon hit, the first to respond were private NGOs or groups, organized solely for the purpose of helping the victims. Some of them were on the ground as early as the day after. With whatever resources they could scrounge up they managed to get in and bring much needed food and supplies to help the survivors whichever way they possibly could. Some were even able to reach remote baranggays made unpassable because of debris blocking the roads. I would like to affectionately call this Guerilla Relief Operations. Now, on the other hand the govt. in comparison has more resources available. Coupled with the outpouring of Foreign aid, this is multiplied exponentially. The President himself has the resources and manpower of the Philippine Armed Forces at his command. The Philippine Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Most of these troops would gladly have gone to help their fellow countrymen in need. They have protocols to cover numerous disaster scenarios and various agencies that are supposed to function in order to provide aid and assistance to those who are supposed to need the most. So this is the question i would like to ask: What took them so long? Ive personally witnessed communities that have not received any form of govt. assistance 6-10 days after the Typhoon. Id even wager that there are those who have still not received any to this day. Instead, it is the selfless and tireless work of private entities, kind-hearted individuals and foreign nations that have provided relief, medical assistance and shelter to the victims of this most horrendous of natural calamities. We are supposed to be a Democratic Nation. A country where we freely choose our leaders who are supposed to not just govern, but represent and protect our fellow countrymen who are unable to do so themselves. To give them a voice. To enact policies, programs, laws and so forth that should uplift their lives and the sad state of our nation and not just the few who would benefit from it. We have the power to do so in the upcoming elections in 2016. I humbly ask that we choose leaders who have a sincere desire to serve our country and its people, and will lead us with integrity. Im proud of my country and my people. Not so much with our leaders who are shamelessly using Partisan Politics to further their own political careers or businessmen who profit on the misery of others. Especially during times of extreme need such as this. We dont need them. They are whats holding this country and our people back. And despite the lies that have been propagated in the media, they have not done a good job. They have not done their best. My countrymen deserve your BEST. And we deserve better leaders than the ones who are in office now. Please remember this the next time you are about to fill-up an Election Ballot.
