With great pleasure, I wrote something for The Globe & Mails Health column. Today, Im talking about how much I learned as a Breast Cancer rookie patient, and how much I learned from other patients. Sharing information and lending our ear, shoulder, and support TO other patients and families, makes our experience a little easier. It helps to be in the trenches with others who are going through the same thing, or who have gone before us. We are students of life, and we are teachers (whether intentional or not). I have a huge passion for volunteerism, and love spending time with other cancer patients, ESPECIALLY rookies and their families. I encourage everyone to share their stories with each other, as it will bring all of us mutual understanding, empathy, and hope. Plus, a few laughs along the way.
