With great sadness the Center announces the recent passing of our co-founder and beloved colleague, Thomas H. Roderick, Ph.D. Dr. Roderick devoted countless hours to counseling, education, and research projects at the Center. He was also a research geneticist emeritus at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor and for many years served as co-director of their annual Short Course on Medical and Experimental Mammalian Genetics. He long ago recognized the importance of detailed genealogy in understanding the role of genetics in human disease and is credited with coining the term "genomics" to refer to the newly emerging subdiscipline of genetics that deals with the mapping and analysis of entire sets of chromosomes (genomes). A true "gentleman and a scholar", he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
